1. Why is this project taking place?

The City is investing in the new fixtures to improve light quality, increase visibility and reduce energy costs.   

2. Who is upgrading the street lights?

The City of Hollywood is upgrading the more than 2,000 City-owned fixtures.

3. What does this lighting upgrade include?

Existing high intensity discharge (HID) fixtures will be replaced with new light emitting diode (LED) fixtures and smart controls.

4. Why are the lights outside my house not being upgraded?

Florida Power and Light poles and fixtures were replaced over the last several years. It is possible the light outside your property has already been upgraded to LED

5. Will the lights in my alleyway also be replaced?

Alleyway lighting is not included in this scope of work

6. What is the difference between the old and new lights?

Traditional high pressure sodium (HPS) and metal halide (MH) fixtures are being replaced with new light emitting diode (LED) fixtures. In most areas, you will notice a change in the light color, from an orange light to a brighter white light.  

7. What will happen the to the light and pole in front of my house?

The existing light fixture will be replaced and the existing pole will remain the same.

8. What happens to the trees in my swale?

In some cases it may be necessary for crews to prune existing landscaping at no expense to the homeowner.

9. What do I have to do to prepare for this project?

You can help by ensuring all personal property, including landscaping planted in pots or planters that can be temporarily moved should be moved outside of the work zone.

10. When can I expect this project to start in my neighborhood?

The lighting upgrade project is slated to begin in October 2023.

11. When can I expect this project to end?

The lighting upgrade project is scheduled to conclude by October 2024, subject to weather or other unexpected delays.

12. Where is the lighting upgrade taking place?

City-owned street lights are being upgraded throughout the entire City.
