FASTTRAC START-UP PROGRAM

The City will begin accepting applications online for its 3rd cohort of the Kauffman Foundation FastTrac® Start-Up Program on Monday, January 10. This FREE entrepreneurship program is provided at no cost to participants. 

Participants will develop a clear business concept and learn how to:

Broward County’s November Jobs Grew 34,900 and Unemployment Went Down to 3.8%

Broward County’s job report indicated a 3.8 percent unemployment rate in November 2021. This rate was 1.4 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 5.2 percent. The labor force was 1,053,694, up 57,845 (+5.8 percent) over the year. There were 39,980 unemployed residents in the region. 
 
Nonagricultural employment in the Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Bch-Deerfield Bch Metro Division was 849,000, an increase of 34,900 jobs (4.3 percent) over the year.

Data and Analysis
In the month of November, the majority of industries gained jobs compared to the previous year, with the exception of Financial Activities (-100 jobs, -0.2%).
 
The construction (+12.1 percent) and manufacturing (+5.3 percent) industries grew faster in the metro area than statewide over the year.
 
The Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach Metro Division had the highest annual job growth compared to all the metro areas in the state in construction (+5,700 jobs) and manufacturing (+1,400 jobs).
 
Month to month growth comparison shows a slight decrease in a few industries.

Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in November 2021, down 0.1 percentage point from the October 2021 rate, and down 0.9 percentage point from a year ago. There were 483,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,632,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in November. Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 8,960,200 in November 2021, an increase of 51,100 jobs (+0.6 percent) over the month. The state gained 485,600 jobs over the year, an increase of 5.7 percent.  Nationally, the number of jobs rose 4.1 percent over the year. 
 
The November 2021 total nonagricultural employment has not reached the pre-pandemic levels in February 2020.
 
The unemployment rate in Palm Beach County was 3.5 percent in November 2021. This rate was 0.9 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 4.4 percent. The labor force was 756,082, up 48,868 (+6.9 percent) over the year. There were 26,537 unemployed residents in the region.  In November 2021, nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Bch-Boca Raton-Delray Bch Metro Division was 641,900, an increase of 31,000 jobs (+5.1 percent) over the year. 
 
For Miami-Dade County, the unemployment rate was 3.7 percent in November 2021. This rate was 4.5 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 8.2 percent. In November 2021, nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall Metropolitan Division was 1,197,800, an increase of 70,100 jobs (+6.2 percent) over the year. In November 2021, the labor force was 1,352,182, up 54,038 (+4.2 percent) over the year. There were 49,473 unemployed residents in the region.
