The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday January, 18th will be the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. The City of Hollywood’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts is hosting a video contest for participants to submit a video of an original poem, spoken word passage, or showing an act of service. Participants must complete the online registration before Monday, January 25th. Once registered, a member of the Special Events team will email instructions for your submit your video. All video entries must be received by Monday, February 1st.
How it Works
Show us your creativity bu using your favorite video sharing app (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc.) to create a video (up to two minutes long) in one of the following categories:
- Day of Service; select a project that gives back to your community, this can be anything from sending care cards to a senior center, volunteering at a food bank, or doing a cleanup at a public park or beach.
- Original Work; using the subject of civil rights and/or social justice, create an original poem or spoken word passage that captures the essence of what you are passionate about.
A committee will review all videos and select the top 3 entries from each category. For contest questions, please visit the Special Events webpage or call the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts at 954.921.3404.
