[ARCHIVED] Storm Preparations Underway

Storm Preparations Underway

Tropical Storm Laura

City of Hollywood Emergency Management staff and public safety personnel are monitoring the track and development of Tropical Storm Laura. Residents are encouraged to review their emergency plans and make sure they are prepared for the potential of severe weather.

Tropical Storm Laura formed on Friday. While South Florida is no longer in the the five-day forecast cone, residents should continue to monitor this storm and not focus on the forecast track of the storm’s center.

Be Prepared
• Gather your hurricane supplies now, if you have not already done so. You should have five to seven days’ worth of supplies, such as non-perishable food and water, for each person in your household.
• Residents should refrain from cutting trees or doing additional landscaping projects until after this storm passes. Solid/commingled and recyclable materials should be properly secured in a safe, sheltered location.
• Make plans to secure any outdoor items that could be blown around in the storm. Bring them indoors or otherwise secure them as the storm approaches.

Stormwater Preparations
The Department of Public Utilities has deployed several auxiliary stormwater pumps to complement the 10 permanent stormwater pump stations. Crews will be removing debris blocking stormwater grates or inlets. Public Utilities staff will be closely monitoring all pump stations before, during and after the storm.

Garbage/Recycling/Commingled Collections
Please keep in mind, garbage, recycling and commingled (brush and hard junk) collections may be suspended in advance of the storm depending upon the forecast and conditions. During a storm, residents are asked to secure grey garbage carts and blue recycling carts on their property, along with commingled materials. Please continue to monitor the City’s website, www.hollywoodfl.org for updates.
