[ARCHIVED] National Weather Service Advisory Regarding Possibility of Severe Weather

Severe Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service (NWS) expects strong to severe thunderstorms to impact the Hollywood area on Thursday, December 20th through Friday. This weather system is associated with a cold front affecting much of the Southeastern United States and U.S. East Coast. Thunderstorms are expected to begin affecting our region in the afternoon and taper off on Friday.

Forecasters are advising periods of heavy rainfall that may result in minor to moderate street-level flooding in low lying areas of Hollywood including Hollywood Beach and the Lakes neighborhood. Motorists should use caution and avoid traveling on flooded streets. Coastal roads, parking lots and docks in vulnerable areas could flood during high tide.

The NWS is also expecting strong winds through Friday, with possible gusts of more than 40 mph as the system moves through the area. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items to prevent from being blown away and becoming dangerous projectiles. Hazardous marine conditions and scattered power outages are anticipated. Monitor local news media outlets for the latest information.
