On June 21, 2017, the City of Hollywood received applications to remove the names of Confederate Generals from the following roadways: Forrest Drive; Forrest, Lee and Hood Streets. On November 15, 2017, the City Commission approved the change of names as follows: Forrest Drive to Freedom Drive, Forrest Street to Freedom Street, Lee Street to Liberty Street and Hood Street to Hope Street. The City has made arrangements with the Department of Motor Vehicles to provide no cost driver's license replacements to those living on the impacted streets on the following days and locations:
Saturday, June 16: Driftwood Community Center, 3000 N 69 Avenue from 10:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m.
Tuesday, June 19: City Hall, 2600 Hollywood Boulevard from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m
Saturday, July 7: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 2400 Charleston Street from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
These sessions are only for residents living on the impacted streets. Make sure you have all the necessary documents required by the Department of Highway and Motor Vehicle Safety to change your drivers license before coming to one of these special sessions. As part of federal requirements for the issuing of driver's licenses and identification cards, all licenses must now by REAL-ID compliant. Licenses that have a star in the upper corner are compliant. For customers who don't have a current license with star, you must bring original documents that validate your identity, social security number and residential address. For a checklist of the valid documents options that are acceptable, please go to www.GatherGoGet.com. Additionally, all customers will need to show their current, valid driver's license listing one of the following street names: Forrest Drive, Forrest Street, Lee Street, or Hood Street.
