[ARCHIVED] Hurricane Irma Update #16

Hurricane-Irma

Hurricane Irma:  Hurricane Warning In Effect

Update as of  5 p.m., Sunday, Sept 10

A Hurricane Warning is currently in place for the City of Hollywood.  The countywide curfew in effect for Broward County is set to expire at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 11th. All residents should remain sheltered indoors throughout the duration of the storm.

Tropical Storm conditions will continue into Monday morning. Hurricane Irma is expected to have produced 8 to 15 inches of rain in South Florida with up to 20 inches in isolated areas. Maximum sustained winds are currently near 110 mph with higher gusts. Irma has weakened to a Category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Irma is expected to remain a hurricane at least through Monday. Irma is moving toward the north near 14mph and a north-northwest motion with an increase in forward speed is expected by tonight. On the forecast track, the eye of Irma should move near or over the west coast of the Florida Peninsula through Monday morning.  Irma should then move inland over northern Florida and southwestern Georgia Monday afternoon.

Storm surge and the tide are forecast to cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. Storm surge waters could reach 1-2 feet above ground with the deepest water along the immediate coast. The City of Hollywood continues to closely monitor Hurricane Irma.

Curfew

The Broward County curfew will remain in effect until 10 a.m. on Monday morning.

Emergency Operations Center Activation

The City’s Emergency Operations Center will continue to be fully activated through post-storm recovery. The City has activated its Hurricane Call Center. This call center can be reached by calling: 954.967.4EOC (4362). Broward County is also operating its Hurricane Hotline which is 311 or 954.831.4000.

Residents are still advised to remain inside. Please continue monitoring the storm on various news outlets and check the City’s website www.hollywoodfl.org and twitter feed for updates.
