[ARCHIVED] Ravenswood Road Bridge Demolition Scheduled

The Florida Department of Transportation awarded a $4,789,933.18 million contract to Morrison-Cobalt JV to replace the Ravenswood Road Bridge over the Dania Cut-off Canal. Construction began November 30, 2015 and is expected to be completed by late Summer 2017.

Marine Impact
The contractor is expected to begin bridge demolition activities on Thursday, September 28, 2016. Boaters using the Dania Cut-Off Canal at the Ravenswood Road Bridge will experience impacts during this phase of construction. The project team will work with the U.S. Coast Guard to distribute information through the Local Notice to Mariners and VHF-FM Channel 9. Boaters may also use VHF-FM Channel 9 for daily coordination efforts with the contractor, as needed. All work is expected to occur Monday through Friday during the daytime hours, otherwise, notification will be provided. The below information is subject change due to weather delays and other unforeseen conditions.

Beginning September 28th - Bridge Span Removal
• Beginning at 8 a.m. daily, boaters can expect periodic canal closures of up to two hours.
• These activities are expected to take approximately three weeks.

Beginning September 28th - Test Pile Installation
• Between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., residents can expect noise and potential vibration during these operations.
• These activities are expected to take approximately three weeks.

Beginning October 3rd – Fender System Removal & Underwater Activities
• Short, intermittent canal closures between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Boaters can expect brief delays.
• These activities are expected to take approximately two and a half months.

Beginning October 31st - Installation of canal protection
• Boaters can expect canal closures of up to 2 hours.
• These activities are expected to take approximately three months.

Spring 2016 - Spring 2017
• The bridge is closed continuously to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
• Motorists shall use the following detour: SW 42nd Street to SW 30th Avenue to Griffin Road.
• Boaters can expect closures of the Dania Cut-Off Canal based on the above schedule.

Spring 2017 - Summer 2017
• During these phases, the bridge is expected to be open to vehicular traffic. However periodic single lane closures may occur within the work zone . Flag crews will direct motorists through the work zone.
• No canal impacts are expected during this phase of construction.
