As part of a new one-year pilot program, the City of Hollywood will expand service hours to eleven hours-a-day, 4 days-a-week. The new service hours will launch with the new fiscal year which starts October 1st.

Starting Monday, October 3, 2016, regular office hours for City Hall and most other City Administrative Offices will be 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with offices closed on Friday. By offering extended service hours 4 days a week, the City is seeking to enhance customer service for those who work during the day. Staff will be now be on-hand to assist customers in the early morning and early evening hours.

In researching this program, the City surveyed several other South Florida municipalities that have implemented extended service hours. That research showed many City's see energy cost savings, reduced maintenance costs, reduced overtime usage, and improved employee productivity and morale. Hollywood is the latest to join a host of other Broward County cities, such as Pembroke Pines, Lauderdale Lakes, Miramar and Margate, to offer an extended service hours schedule.

During this one-year pilot program, the overall effectiveness, cost savings and impact on customer service, employee morale and productivity will be assessed to determine whether to continue the program permanently. Departments such as Police and Fire, as well as functions like Public Utilities water and wastewater treatment plant operations, will not be impacted by the change and will continue to operate on their already established schedules providing for 24/7 public safety and essential municipal services.
