Annual Water Line Flushing Program Underway from October 12 to November 9
Water Remains Safe to Drink During this Required Process
The City of Hollywood Department of Public Utilities will begin its Annual Water Line Flushing Program on October 12, 2015. Flushing will continue across the City through November 9, 2015.
The Annual Flushing Program is used by the Broward County Health Department to help rid the water distribution pipelines of any accumulated sediments. The hydrant flushing may temporarily cause cloudy or discolored water, which should settle and clear a few hours after flushing. The cloudiness is due to the sediments in the pipeline and is not harmful or hazardous.
Flushing will take place in one section of the City at a time, Monday through Friday, during the day and evening hours. Flushing will begin at Park Road heading west through the City to University Drive and then from Park Road east through the City to the beach. During the water line flushing period, the Water Treatment Plant will temporarily change its method of disinfection from chloramines to free chlorination.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Owners and managers of businesses with fish and shellfish holding tanks and users of kidney dialysis machines are advised that regular methods for testing and removing chloramines will not be effective during the flushing period. It will be necessary to test and adjust for free chlorine.
