[ARCHIVED] Plan to "Shop Small" in Hollywood on Small Business Saturday, Nov 29th

Support small businesses in Hollywood this holiday season by making plans to do some of your holiday shopping on Small Business Saturday during the Thanksgiving weekend in Downtown Hollywood, on Hollywood Beach and along Johnson Street in west Hollywood.

The City of Hollywood and the Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency have teamed with the City’s three business associations and the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to promote Small Business Saturday. This initiative, launched in 2010 by the American Express Corporation, encourages people to shop at small business on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year the big day is November 29.

There will be roving musicians, face painting and a hospitality tent in each of these areas from noon to 6 p.m. to welcome customers and provide information on the deals, discounts and special offers local businesses are providing on this busy shopping day. Come to Hollywood Beach and pick up a gift certificate to give for dinner just steps from the ocean, or visit Downtown Hollywood to find that perfect gift or gift certificate in a quaint atmosphere, or check out some of the great ethnic fare along Johnson Street. Dozens of Hollywood businesses have signed up to make this Saturday a special shopping day throughout Hollywood.

Businesses that still want to get involved in supporting the “Shop Small” movement can add their business to the Shop Small listing on the City's website through Saturday. The Hollywood Beach Business Association, the Downtown Hollywood Business Association and the Johnson Street Business District each signed up with American Express to be official Neighborhood Champions for Small Business Saturday and will put out "Shop Small" welcome mats and balloons to help guide patrons to participating business.

The holiday season is an important time for small businesses and many customers see the value in buying local products and services. Through the Small Business Saturday national campaign, more and more people are thinking about their buying choices. Last year alone $5.7 billion dollars were spent on the Saturday after Thanksgiving in small businesses across the country! Take advantage of this opportunity to support the small businesses in our community.
