As part of the updates at the Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility to comply with the Ocean Outfall Legislation (OOL), activities associated with the construction of Deep Injection Wells 3 and 4 Pump Station is resulting in increased noise levels in the vicinity of 14th Avenue between Taft Street and Thomas Street. At this time, the contractor is installing sheet piles to secure excavation sites. The noise associated with this type of construction activity is unavoidable at times. Crews are making every effort to minimize the disruption while quickly working to complete this necessary portion of the project.
Sheet pile installation is expected to take place during normal business hours. Phase 1 of the sheet pile installation is expected to continue Monday – Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM through Thursday, August 18th. The Department of Public Utilities thanks you for your patience during this construction phase of the project.
More about the Deep Injection Wells 3 &4 Pump Station Project and the Ocean Outfall Legislation (OOL): The OOL requires utilities in Southeast Florida to eliminate the normal use of the ocean outfall to discharge high quality wastewater effluent by the end of 2025.
