The National Hurricane Center (NHC) will continue to monitor the the tropical system as it moves across the southern and central portions of the Florida Peninsula, and then over the southwestern Atlantic north of the northwestern Bahamas late Saturday through Sunday. NHC has discontinued the Tropical Storm Warning for our area. A Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday morning.
As of the Saturday 2 p.m. update, the NHC reports maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is expected tonight at the system moves farther away from Florida over the western Atlantic. A return to more scattered showers and thunderstorms late this afternoon are expected, and flooding from earlier rains is anticipated to linger as storm waters slowly recede.
Localized street flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and portions of Hollywood east of US-1 between Pembroke Road and Sheridan Street has been reported. Crews are accessing any damage, and deploying additional barricades where necessary. Some beach erosion has been reported as a result of the strong storm surge. Residents should continue to monitor trusted news providers like the National Weather Service Miami and the National Hurricane Center for the latest information.
Parking Fees Suspended in City-operated Garages
To assist Hollywood residents who live in low-lying areas, from 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3 to noon on Sunday, June 5, parking fees are being waived in the four City garages. Hollywood residents can park their personal vehicles in the garages on a first come, first served basis during this time without charge. Proof of Hollywood residency will be required. No commercial trucks or fleet vehicles will be allowed. All vehicles must be parked legally in marked spaces. Any vehicles parked illegally or blocking other vehicles will be ticketed and could be towed. Spaces remain available at the garages.

Request a Ride
The Sun Shuttle Service remains suspended until further notice.
Use the “Ride Circuit” App to request a ride on the Hollywood Sun Shuttle from a City-operated parking garage to a destination within the shuttle service area. The Hollywood Sun Shuttle will continue operating while weather conditions allow, however service may temporarily be suspended, or service areas limited due to flooding, wind or other inclement weather conditions. Rider fares will be waived until noon on Sunday.

Pumps Deployed and Storm Drains Cleared
City of Hollywood Public Utilities Department is deployed to continue to clear storm drains, and monitor stationary and deployed auxiliary pumps in areas prone to flooding. Residents who are able can assist by ensuring that storm drains near their homes remain cleared throughout the weekend. Pumps are operational at this time.
Flood Safety Tips
- Call 911 if flood damage to your home has created an emergency situation such as a fire.
- Motorists should not attempt to drive through flooded areas.
- If you must be out on the roadways, please drive slowly to avoid pushing storm waters onto private property.
- Use caution with electrical appliances, electrical cords and outlets if floodwaters have entered your home.
- Residents should not go outside or wade in standing flood water, which can contain contaminants. Following a heavy storm, sharp debris and other items from overturned garbage bins could be hidden in the water and cause injury. Standing water also may contain harmful bacteria that could cause infection.
- Health officials remind the public to not let children or pets play in flood water.
- Residents should prepare to notify their homeowner’s insurance providers if they have experienced flood damage and seek their advice on documenting the damage and drying out your home. The same applies for contacting your vehicle insurance provider if you find your vehicle has been damaged.

The City of Hollywood has launched a new emergency notification system called Alert Hollywood. Used by many government agencies throughout Florida, Alert Hollywood notifies residents through phone calls, e-mails and/or text messages to mobile phones of an emergency in the community such as a hurricane watch or warning, flash flood warning, tornado warning, serious police situations and other critical incidents.
SIGN UP for Alert Hollywood - on the registration page, click on the "Sign Up" link located just below the login fields. After you submit your information, you will receive Alert Hollywood notifications whenever an alert is issued. Alerts may be received by phone and/or email address. Severe weather alerts issued by the National Weather Service are automatically issued through the Alert Hollywood system if you elect to receive those notifications.
The Alert Hollywood service is free to the public. Text message fees by your wireless carrier may apply depending on your mobile phone plan.
