Historic Preservation Month is celebrated throughout the Country during the month of May. This program was created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to spotlight preservation efforts by local governments and communities. As a Certified Local Government, the City celebrates with great pride historic preservation as an effective tool for managing growth and sustainable development, revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride, maintaining community character, and enhancing livability. It is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible and intangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped the City.
Additionally, in recognition of this distinctive time, each year the City of Hollywood Historic Preservation Board and City Commission present awards during the May Commission meeting in celebration of notable preservation initiatives within Hollywood. Selections are made by the Historic Preservation Board. Recipients will be presented with an award in honor of their achievement.
The City is also proud to highlight the Hollywood Historical Society as a partner in the City’s preservation efforts. Their mission is to collect, maintain and disseminate information about the history of Hollywood, Florida. To promote preserving Hollywood's historical resources and landmarks.
