Hollywood has been a certified National Wildlife Federation Community Wildlife Habitat since 2017. The program partners with cities like ours to promote the use of native trees and plants, reduce or eliminate the use of pesticides and chemicals, and integrate wildlife-friendly practices into sustainability plans. Through this program, Hollywood is enhancing and restoring islands and corridors of wildlife habitat in this highly urbanized region. These efforts support our work on climate change mitigation, resiliency, urban forestry, water conservation, beautification, and more.
Hollywood achieves annual re-certification when individual properties (homes, parks, schools, businesses, and others) become Certified Wildlife Habitats and through education and outreach initiatives, such as engaging community members in habitat restoration projects, providing resources like native plant lists, and communicating through our website and social media outlets and through other channels.
Hollywood residents are encouraged to certify their property as a Certified Wildlife Habitat by using sustainable gardening practices and providing the four basic elements that all wildlife need: food, water, cover, and places to raise young.
