1. What is Bulk Waste?

• Bulk waste is furniture, mattresses, appliances, bicycles, and other household goods.
• The average homeowner does not produce more than 6 cubic yards per month.
• If they are producing more than they are probably bringing material in from another place or doing a major renovation.
• If they are doing a major renovation and have material greater than 6 cubic yards they should make prior arrangements to have the material removed by a hauler or through us.

2. What specific changes were made to the bulk waste collection?

• Bulk Waste will be collected once per month as specified in the collection schedule map on the City’s website. Bulk Waste Collection Schedule Map 
• Bulk waste material shall be no more than 6 cubic yards. No yard waste is allowed to be mixed with bulk waste.

3. What material is considered unacceptable?

• Motor vehicles, trailers, or other types of machinery or equipment, highly flammable substances, hazardous waste, sludge, pathological and biological wastes, liquid wastes, sewage, manure, feces , explosives and ordnance materials, radioactive materials, construction and demolition material, rocks, and soil or any combination of bulk waste and yard waste or any bulk waste or yard waste not meeting the definitions above.
• The code states that you place this material out for collection you will be in violation.
• If you do then a code officer will notify you that you are in violation of the code.
• You will have 24 hours to remove it from the curb or arrange to have it picked up.
• You can arrange this pick up through the city or you may contract with a licensed hauler allowed to work within the city.
• If neither of these two arrangements are made the City will arrange pick up and you will be charged the disposal fee plus a $200 administration fee.
• If this activity is repeated then a civil citation will also be incurred.

4. What is Yard Waste?

• Yard waste is grass clippings, leaves, miscellaneous garden trash, shrubbery cuttings, palm fronds or tree limbs.
• You are allowed to dispose of 4 cubic yards per week.
• If you have a landscaper it is required by code that they take and dispose of the material. They are not covered under your residential fee structure.

5. Can my landscaper place my yard waste out for collection?

• No. Professional tree trimmers, lawn maintenance companies, landscapers, etc. are required to arrange for disposal of cuttings, branches, grass and leaves. They are not considered City Environmental Services customers. They are also required to obtain all necessary local business tax receipts.
• If your landscaper leaves the material, you the property owner will be held responsible for the cost of the removal if they do not take the material and may be subject to a civil citation.

6. What specific changes were made to the yard waste collection?

• Yard waste will still be collected once per week as specified in collection schedule map on the City’s website. Yard Waste Collection Schedule Map 
• Yard waste material shall be no more than 4 cubic yards per week. No bulk waste is allowed to be mixed with yard waste.

7. Will Commingled Collections resume after October 1, 2020 and why did the change occur?

• No. Effective October 1, 2020. Bulk and Yard waste will be collected separately. Bulk waste will be collected once per month collections (*refer to collection map on City of Hollywood website for specific day and time of service). Yard Waste collections will remain on a weekly schedule.

8. What happens if I mix my bulk waste and yard waste together for collection?

• The code states that you may not mix bulk waste and yard waste together for collection.
• If you do then a code officer will notify you that you are in violation of the code.
• You will have 24 hours to remove it from the curb or arrange to have it picked up.

9. What happens if I place my material out for collection outside of my collection schedule?

• The code states that you may not put your material out in the right of way for collection more than 24 hours in advance of your service.
• If you do then a code officer will notify you that you are in violation of the code.
• You will have 24 hours to remove it from the curb or arrange to have it picked up.
• You can arrange this pick up through the city or you may contract with a licensed hauler allowed to work within the city.

• If neither of these two arrangements are made the City will arrange pick up and you will be charged the disposal fee plus a $200 administration fee.

• If this is activity is repeated then a civil citation will also be incurred.

10. Where should I place my bulk waste or yard waste?

• All bulk waste and yard waste shall be placed for collection at the rear of the private property (if you have an alley) or on the swale or unpaved portion of the right-of-way (if you don’t have an alley).

• The location must be easily accessible to the collection crews and must not impede the flow of traffic.

• To allow for the safe operation of equipment, the bulk waste or yard waste debris is not to be placed near or under guy wires or adjacent to utility poles, trees, water meters, cable boxes, fences or other structures.

• Placement of bulk waste or yard waste is the responsibility of the property owner, and any damages to these items due to the improper placement of bulk waste or yard waste will be the responsibility to the property owner.

11. Can I store my garbage and recycling carts in the alley?

• Property owners will be required to store these receptacles at the side or rear of the property.
• Property owners will not be allowed to store these receptacles in the alley, unless the owner has an approved/permitted recessed bay for storage.

• If you do not bring your Garbage/Recycling receptacles to the appropriate location you can be cited with a civil citation.

12. What time must my carts be placed for service? When do I need to bring it back?

• Garbage and Recycling receptacles shall be placed out for service no sooner than 5:00 pm on the day prior to their scheduled service.

• The carts should be placed out for service no later than 7:00 am on the day of scheduled service.

• Garbage and Recycling receptacles must be returned to storage no later than 7:00 pm on the day of scheduled service.

13. My cart is damaged, what should I do?

• You should call Waste Pro at 954-967-4200 or Environmental Services at 954-967-4526. Staff will be able to assist you with a work order for repair or replacement. Remember, Garbage and recycling carts remain the property of the City. The owner and/or occupant shall be responsible for charges associated with replacement of any city-owned receptacle damaged due to negligence or abuse.

14. What if I provided my own garbage or recycle receptacle for collection?

• Customers must use an approved garbage or recycle cart issued by Waste Pro only. Customers should only have one garbage receptacle and one recycle receptacle per unit. Customers who possess more than one garbage or recycle receptacle and are not paying for it must be returned immediately.

• Only City of Hollywood carts are to be utilized to receive services, no other carts are acceptable.
