TUESDAY, JULY 20 9AM UPDATE - Water testing has been completed and the water boil advisory has been lifted. Water is now safe for drinking and cooking.
The Department of Public Utilities has issued a Precautionary Boil Water Advisory for the area of South Ocean Drive on the barrier island between Jefferson Street and Iris Terrace due to a water main break at 1400 S. Ocean Drive. Crews are working to repair a break in a 6 inch water main in this area.
Due to a drop in water pressure in the system caused by the break and the repair work, the Department is issuing a precautionary boil water notice. Those residents in the area along South Ocean Drive between Jefferson Street and Iris Terrace including 1201, 1400, 1410, 1500, 1600 South Ocean Drive are advised that all water used for cooking, drinking, making ice, washing dishes and brushing teeth, should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute and cooled prior to using. Bottled water may also be used as an alternative.
This advisory will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected and bacteriological testing on the water shows that it is safe for consumption. At that time, the precautionary boil water notice will be rescinded.
