[ARCHIVED] Be Prepared: Hurricane Isaias

Hurricane Isaias

Update as of 7/31/20 5:30 PM

Hollywood is under a Hurricane Watch as Isaias has strengthened to a Category 1 Hurricane with its projected path shifting closer to Florida.

Isaias has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane. It has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph and is expected to strengthen to a Category 2 hurricane as it impacts the Bahamas. The City is currently under a Hurricane Watch which means hurricane conditions (sustained winds of more than 74 mph) are possible within the next 24 to 36 hours.  Hurricane conditions are expected to reach the coast within the hurricane warning area, north of Broward County, in Florida late Saturday and Saturday night. Winds are expected to first reach tropical storm strength on Saturday, making outside preparations difficult or dangerous.  Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion. Residents are encouraged continue monitoring this storm and ensure they have all hurricane preparations in place.

No Garbage/Recycling Pickup on Saturday
Due to the possibility of Tropical Storm or Hurricane  force winds on Saturday, there will be no garbage, recycling or commingled pick up on Saturday. Customers are asked to secure garbage carts and solid/commingled and recyclable materials in a safe, sheltered location.  Please do not place garbage carts out for collection.

Parks, Swimming Pools and Recreational Facilities

All youth sports activities  and aquatic activities are suspended for Saturday and Sunday due to Hurricane Isaias.  Additionally all parks, including dog parks, will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Sun Shuttle by Circuit Ride Service Suspended

The Sun Shuttle Micro-transit service that provides free rides around Downtown Hollywood and Hollywood Beach will be suspended Saturday and Sunday due to the possibility of sustained winds in excess of 35 mph.   it is not safe for the electric cars to operate in storm conditions.

Finalize Storm Preparations

City of Hollywood Emergency Management staff and public safety personnel are monitoring the track and development of Hurricane Isaias and making final preparations.   Residents should finalize their emergency preparations and make sure they are prepared for tropical storm and possible hurricane conditions:

  • Gather your hurricane supplies now if you have not already done so. You should have five to seven days’ worth of supplies, such as non-perishable food and water, for each person in your household.
  • Residents should refrain from cutting trees or doing additional landscaping projects until after this storm passes. Solid/commingled and recyclable materials should be properly secured in a safe, sheltered location.  Garbage carts should be secured on your property.
  • Secure any outdoor items that could be blown around in the storm. Bring them indoors or otherwise secure them as the storm approaches.
