The Sheridan Street bridge over the Florida Turnpike sustained damage during a recent accident that occurred on the Florida Turnpike. A truck with a lowboy struck the beam over the northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike. Broward County is handling the necessary repairs to the beam and planning to repair some older damage to the portion of the bridge over the southbound lanes of the Turnpike at the same time. The following is a schedule of lane closures on the Turnpike to allow for the county to make the necessary repairs to the bridge:
- Beginning Thursday, April 4th at 10:00 p.m., contractors will close one lane in each direction (northbound and southbound) at the Sheridan Overpass on the Turnpike. The lane closures are scheduled to end at 5:30 a.m. Contractor will take a second lane in each direction beginning at 11:00 p.m. and ending at 5:30 a.m.
- Crews will then return the following Sunday through Thursday at the same hours of closures (10:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.) for the next three weeks to complete the repairs.
The repairs needed over the southbound lanes of the Turnpike are anticipated to be completed by Thursday, April 11th. The repairs needed over the northbound lanes are more complex and may take until Thursday, April 25th.
One eastbound lane of Sheridan Street remains closed to traffic. Motorists should seek an alternate route to avoid delays and traffic congestion.
