Hollywood Fire Rescue recently handed out 1600 Stop the Bleed Kits to Fire Rescue Departments across Broward County. Hollywood Fire Rescue successfully sought a $73,000 grant to purchase these life-saving bleeding control kits with the goal of expanding this national program to every city in Broward County.
Last year, Hollywood Fire Rescue and Memorial Healthcare System joined in the national effort to prepare residents to respond to traumatic injuries caused by accidents or acts of public violence. The city and the hospital system obtained grant funding to purchase life-saving bleeding control kits and train residents and city staff with no medical background on how to use them.
Hollywood Fire Rescue installed the initial 115 kits in highly-visible locations within city facilities and community centers in Hollywood. The kits are near existing emergency equipment like fire extinguishers and defibrillators at City Hall, ArtsPark at Young Circle, City Community Centers and in the Public Works Depot. Now, the new kits will be distributed by other Fire Rescue Departments to public facilities county-wide.
