[ARCHIVED] Call Sunshine 811 Before You Dig

Sunshine 811

Recovery continues after Hurricane Irma, including replacing fencing and landscaping that blew down during the storm and grinding the remaining stumps. To be safe, before you dig call Sunshine 811, This free “call before you dig” service is offered through the State of Florida as a way to keep people safe while avoiding possible damage to underground utilities. Trees and fences are often placed near underground utilities, which means replacing these items can be challenging for homeowners and professionals. By calling 811 the underground utilities on your property will be clearly marked so you can avoid damaging lines or injuring yourself.

Anyone who calls 811 or makes an online request is connected to a Sunshine 811 representative who will collect information about the proposed digging project and communicate it to local utility companies. Professional locators will then visit the dig site to mark the approximate location of underground utility lines with spray paint, flags or both. Once a site has been accurately marked, it is safe to begin digging around the marked areas.

Call Sunshine 811 at 811 or process an online request at Sunshine811.com at least two full business days before your digging project begins. Safe digging is everyone’s responsibility.
