[ARCHIVED] Seasonal High Tides Expected October 3rd - 11th

King-Tides-

Based on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s tide predictions, above average high tides are expected October 3th – October 11th and again on October 15th – 22nd.

High seasonal tides, also known as King Tides, are causing low-lying coastal areas to flood, motorists are urged to use caution and seek an alternative route to avoid traveling on flooded streets. Currently the National Weather Service in Miami has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 5 a.m. Tuesday, October 3 to 4 a.m. Thursday, October 5.   Coastal roads, parking lots and docks in vulnerable areas could flood during the times of high tide.

Seasonal tides could raise the water level by more than 2 and a half feet during high tide. The City is working on both short and long-term solutions to minimize the impacts of tidal flooding and has completed the installation of flap gates in the stormwater system that prevents tidal water from flowing back through the stormwater drains.

Above average high tides are expected again November 3rd – November 8th.
